Macro Moments: Week #9

Macro Moments: Week #9

Oil and water don’t mix. Thank God, they don’t mix. Otherwise, we cannot be able to capture such photograph of oil on water.

Oil on water

This week Susan’s Macro moments: Week 9 Challenge is macro photography on an inanimate object. This is my entry for this week’s challenge.

Image Description:

Oil and water were poured into a glass bowl. The bowl was kept under the sunlight.

Technical Detail:

Camera: Nikon D3200,  Lens- 18-55mm, Shutter speed- 1/250s, ISO-800,  I used a macro extension tube. Color effect was created by placing DVD disc near the subject.

Sayanti, I’m going to try this using the reflectors that I just bought. Did you use a cooking type oil or motor oil?

Sayanti aka Shine

OK. That’s fine. I used cooking oil (olive oil).

Very cool, Sayanti! Remind us, what is CD?

Sayanti aka Shine

Thanks, Susan. That was nothing but Compact disc or DVD disc that reflects rainbow color when it is exposed to the sunlight.

Ah, that’s what came to mind, but have never seen on used in photography !

No, there is not any hard and fast rule of using it in photography. I used it only to create a rainbow effect on the water .
